Plot Outline:
After the brutal death of a friend, a group of friends find themselves in possession of a video-game called "Stay Alive," a blood-curdling true story of a 17th century noblewoman known as the Blood Countess. After playing the game when they know they shouldn't, however, the friends realize that once they die in the game--they die for real. As their numbers begin dropping and as they begin dying in the ways they died in the game, the remaining friends realize they must defeat the Blood Countess or accept their fates.

Trivia:
• Video game reference: The old-fashioned camera that Abigail uses in the film is a reference to the popular "Fatal Frame" series of horror/survival games, upon which the "Stay Alive" concept is partially based.
• Although the term "Blood Countess" is used in the movie's synopsis, it is never said within the movie. When Hutch and Abigail are are hearing the story of Elizabeth Bathory from the author of the book "The Lady of Blood," the author says, "Thus began her obsession," (speaking of using the blood of the girls as a "Fountain of Youth," as Abigail says.) to which Hutch replies, "The Blood Countess." (Not in the theatrical version, but at approximately 1 hour 1 minute and 44 seconds on the uncut DVD).
• This was the final production finished in New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina. Hollywood theatrical productions did not return until Buena Vista finally green-lighted Deja Vu (2006).
• The first film from Hollywood Pictures in five years.
• Steve Zahn was originally cast as Miller, but at the last second Adam Goldberg was cast in the role.
• Ben Foster was going to play the role of Hutch O'Neill, but gave the role to his brother Jon Foster instead because he thought it was better suited for him.
• The filmmakers wanted an R rating, but the studio insisted the film be cut to a PG-13.
• The code to strip the zombie concubines naked that Swink uses is 'Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A.' Which is also the Konami Code, a.k.a. Konami Command and Contra Code.
• Shot in 25 days.
• Milo Ventimiglia had to wear contacts in order to see through his glasses.
• Countess Elizabeth Bathory did actually exist. However, for the perspective of the film, her story takes place in New Orleans, whereas historically she was located in Hungary.
• Although 'Entertainment Weekly' issued a D- rating for the theatrical release of Stay Alive, the Director's Cut garnered a respectable C+ rating.
